Update courtesy Richard (comment below): I just bought a PQI 8 GB SDHC card and the Kindle recognized it without a problem. I’ve tranferred books to it and they work perfectly.
Customer Support - confirmed that 4GB SD cards have been tested.

The best way that people have found is by using the MobiPocket Creator - MobiPocket Creator - a FREE Mobi-Pocket conversion software from Mobipocket.com.
